Project HERO
dk Advocates helps people with barriers to employment find meaningful jobs. Through Project HERO, we provide employment services in Tucson and Phoenix to U.S. Military Veterans with disabilities. We collaborate with private industry to expand job and career opportunities for our veterans. Project HERO offers job seeking skills, job development, employment retention services, peer support, job coaching and resume writing. The program is free to all participants. This program is funded with a “Projects With Industry” grant . It is a 5-year program effective 1 Oct 2008 – 30 Sep 2013 Funded by the Department of Education. It is an innovative program designed to help eliminate barriers to employment through training and supportive services such as:
• Skills training
• Computer classes
• Peer support
• Job coaching
• Community mentoring
Our goals are to serve disabled veterans in Southern Arizona to expand employment possibilities as well as address three critical labor needs:
• Finding employment for unemployed veteran
• Retraining to maximize competitive employability
• Job retention with a focus on career advancement
Worksites
Many people find it difficult to qualify for the jobs they want due to limited work experience. For over 20 years dk Advocates has provided community-based, small group paid work experience programs, each supervised by an on-site Worksite Supervisor.
Resume Development
Part of our Job Development and Placement program includes Resume Development. This is includes teaching the client how to prepare and write a resume. If the client should need it we can also type the resume for them. We provide job leads and schedule interviews. Those who prefer company in the interview are accompanied.
Training
dk Advocates provides training and prepares program participants for a career in office work, such as receptionist, data entry, clerical, database maintenance, document conversion, etc.
